The International Fetal Medicine Foundation Congress made its Middle East debut in Abu Dhabi, bringing together global experts in fetal medicine. The prestigious event, hosted by Burjeel Holdings, marked a significant milestone for the region, with 500 delegates from 14 countries attending. The congress featured Professor Kypros Nicolaides, widely recognized as the ‘Father of Fetal Medicine’, alongside leading professionals in the field.
Advancements in Fetal Medicine
The congress highlighted groundbreaking advancements in fetal medicine, with 22 presentations covering topics such as early screening for fetal malformations, pre-eclampsia, fetal growth issues, artificial placentas, and fetal surgery. These innovations aim to improve fetal outcomes and enhance healthcare for mothers and unborn children.
Professor Nicolaides and other experts discussed new technologies and methodologies aimed at advancing fetal medicine practices. His vision is to extend this expertise to regions like Africa and the Middle East, where training and improved healthcare can significantly reduce maternal and fetal complications.

H.E. Dr. Maitha bint Salem Al Shamsi, Minister of State, expressed pride in Abu Dhabi’s role as a host for such influential conferences, emphasizing the importance of fetal medicine in global health. She highlighted the Emirate’s commitment to hosting international events that advance the health sector.
Dr. Fayeza Saif Alyafei, Executive Director of Healthcare Facility Sectors at the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, and Dr. Ghuwaya Al Neyadi, Senior Vice President at ADNOC and Burjeel Holdings Board Member, presented Prof. Nicolaides with an award for his contributions.
